Oracle Architecture For The Beginner DBA

Understanding and knowing Oracle's general architecture guidelines will let you apply them to each "unique" application and environment in which you work. You should get very familar with the following components:
1. Program Global Area (PGA)
2. System Global Area (SGA)
a. Shared Pool
b. Redo Log Buffer
c. Buffer Cache
3. Process Monitor (PMON)
4. System Monitor (SMON)
5. Log Writer (LGWR)
6. Database Writer (DBWR)
7. Check Point Writer (CKPT)
8. Control File
9. Archvie Writer (ARCH)
10. Redo logs
